Real Estate and Development Fund

Urban Studies and Planning is at the forefront of building communities, including right here on campus. Our Industry Engagement Program provides students with mentorship and a broad professional network to support a successful career launch.

Continuing a tradition of excellence, the department launched the first of its kind Real Estate and Development program to meet a need for the next generation of real estate innovators to understand the complex intersections encompassed within community development. The response to the program has been overwhelmingly positive with its focus on experiential learning.

“The USP department has been crucial in my success as a professional. As a first-generation American and college student, it was difficult managing my university experience and professional growth, but the department gave me the resources and personalized support to succeed above and beyond all I ever thought possible. I am now graduating debt free with a B.S. in Real Estate Development and Minor in Urban Planning working with Community HousingWorks as their Housing and Real Estate Project Coordinator.”

SIO Collections Fund

Supporting the Friends of the Collections fund is a compelling way to contribute to the advancement of oceanographic research and education, as it backs one of the largest and most complete university-based oceanographic collections in the world.

This collection, comprising millions of biological and geological marine specimens, serves as a vital resource for researchers and students globally, offering insights into the ocean's history and the story of life on Earth. The specimens in the collection are irreplaceable, as they provide a record of the ocean's state at specific points in time over the past century, helping to answer questions about our planet's future.

Donations to the Friends of the Collections fund will help maintain and enhance the collection, ensuring its continuation as a premier resource for research and education.

Specifically, the funds will be used to acquire necessary equipment, materials for preserving specimens such as jars, lids, tubes and chemicals, and more durable equipment to support the collection's growth and upkeep. Additionally, the fund will cover personnel expenses, including the hiring of students and travel costs, which are essential for the collection's management and the advancement of research.

By supporting the Friends of the Collections fund today, you will be contributing to the preservation of a unique and valuable library of the ocean's history, which benefits not only the scientific community but also the public. Your donation will play a crucial role in advancing our understanding of the ocean and its role in the Earth's ecosystem, ultimately helping to address pressing environmental challenges and ensure a sustainable future.

As the collections continue to grow and evolve, your support is instrumental in unlocking new discoveries and inspiring future generations of researchers and scientists.

Make a gift to the Collections group and be a part of this vital effort to help safeguard the ocean's history for years to come!

School of Physical Sciences Excellence Fund

We all know how tough it can be to get started — whether it’s landing a spot in a lab, finding a community or just figuring out how to navigate college. That’s why paying it forward matters.

The School of Physical Sciences Excellence Fund is a flexible financial resource that enables Dean Hrycyna to respond quickly to needs and opportunities that may not fit within a predefined budget. The fund’s importance lies in its adaptability and support for various strategic initiatives.

Every student deserves the chance to thrive, and your gift is the spark that drives their success. Through your support, you will impact game-changing programs like The Summer Program for Undergraduate Research in Science (SPURS) which gives students a paid, hands-on research experience, and The Transfer Research Experience (T-REx) which helps transfer students get into labs before their first class even begins — so they don’t feel like they’re already behind before they even get started.

It also strengthens student organizations, where students build connections, learn from mentors and gain the confidence to present their work. These communities remind them they’re not alone, helping them push through challenges and thrive. And just as importantly, it helps fund scholarships, ensuring financial barriers don’t stop talented students from succeeding.

For many, these opportunities make all the difference.  Now, you have the chance to make that possible for someone else. No matter the size, every gift helps create opportunities, open doors and shape the future of science. Let’s lift each other up and keep the cycle going!

Your gift is the catalyst — launching careers, sparking discoveries and empowering students to make the breakthroughs of tomorrow.
