The UC San Diego Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) embodies the university's tradition of excellence as a world-class leader in computer science and engineering education and research.
CSE has over 80 faculty, almost 350 PhD students and over 1,000 Masters students. At the undergraduate level, one in every three students who get a degree from UC San Diego has taken a class in our department.
CSE continues to be in a period of exciting growth and opportunity, with the rise of Artificial Intelligence, Large Language Models and Computing across all disciplines. Ranked 3rd in the metrics-based ranking on csrankings.org, the department excels in research and teaching above all else; serves all students, across many disciplines; and creates communities that are inclusive and inspire innovation and creativity for all.
Students who graduate with a degree from CSE take on leading academic appointments at top institutions, as well as fuel leading companies in various industries, including Artificial Intelligence, Large Language Models, Biotech and Health.
