Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GIST) Research
Fellow Tritons, please join us and support GIST cancer research in Merak Melikian Hatounian's memory. Merak was a young man who was diagnosed with this cancer, a form of sarcoma, when he was 20 years old. Merak fought valiantly and sadly passed away in 2020 at age 25. Merak’s memory lives on here with fellow Tritons and beyond with the Miles4Merak Step Challenge in the Fall. Stay tuned for details on this year’s event!
Merak’s mother Debby is a true mother on a mission. Shortly after Merak’s diagnosis, Debby championed the acceleration of research and the discovery of this rare disease.
By supporting gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) research at the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center on Triton Giving Day, you honor Merak’s memory and help unlock new possibilities for patients and families affected by this rare and often aggressive form of cancer. Together, as fellow Tritons, we can make a difference!
Your thoughtful gift, whether $5, $50, $500 or more, adds up to make a significant difference in the search for innovative treatments and finding a cure. In true Triton spirit, you can accelerate the pace of discovery and bring new hope to patients and their families.
Dr. Jason Sicklick, an internationally renowned surgeon-scientist at the Moores Cancer Center, has dedicated his life and lab to improving outcomes for GIST patients in Merak’s memory. His work focuses on developing new therapies and improving existing ones, with the ultimate goal of finding a cure for this devastating disease. Please, join us in making a difference and spreading the word to fellow Tritons today.
The Moores Cancer Center is a leader in cancer research and treatment. Every dollar in this campaign goes toward GIST cancer research. Please donate on this special day and be part of the collective effort to make a difference in the lives of others. Thank you!
