The IDEA Engineering Student Center at UC San Diego is dedicated to creating an inclusive, supportive environment where all engineering students can thrive academically, professionally and personally.
Your gift today will help fund programs that directly impact students’ academic success, professional growth and sense of belonging. The IDEA Center offers several flagship programs and services designed to support student success and create a sense of belonging from before their first day at UC San Diego until graduation day.
During the summer, the Summer Engineering Institute (SEI) helps incoming first-year students transition to college life and engineering coursework, while Transfer Prep is a free, overnight program that prepares incoming transfer students for the academic and professional rigor of UC San Diego.
Throughout the academic year, the IDEA Center team offers a variety of services, such as coaching and hosting an array of events that develop academic, professional and personal skills. The IDEA Scholars Program provides a structured support system for high-achieving underrepresented students through mentorship, academic resources and community-building opportunities.
Engineering Learning Communities offer study groups and workshops to help students succeed in foundational courses. And for those interested in advanced research or graduate school, the Graduates for Engineering and the Research (GEAR) program provides workshops and mentorship to support their academic and professional aspirations.
Together, these programs ensure all engineering students have access to the resources, networks and guidance needed to thrive.

Contributions will go directly into students' pockets by providing scholarships for students who attend the Summer Engineering Institute (SEI), a program which has been linked to most students experiencing an increase in academic preparation and confidence. These scholarships will remove financial barriers by allowing students to attend SEI at a free or reduced cost, giving them the opportunity to focus on their transition to college life and prepare for the academic rigor of UC San Diego.
