BASIC NEEDS

For some students, access to basic needs is a major obstacle to educational achievement. As income inequality grows, our students face increasing housing, food, transportation and tuition expenses that place them at a financial disadvantage and reduce their opportunities for academic success.

Our goal? To ensure all students have enough to eat; safe places to study, sleep and socialize; and financial support to attend classes and pay for essentials without undue stress.

Join us with a gift today to ensure that every member of our student body has what they need to focus on their education. Whether a student needs a toothbrush and blanket or a meal and temporary housing, your gift will allow us to address basic needs insecurities our students face, while fostering a sense of belonging and wellness for every student.

The Hub Basic Needs Center (The Hub) is where students can access a variety of direct services and resources to meet housing, food and financial needs. As basic needs are fundamental to basic human rights, The Hub establishes UC San Diego as a campus where the combination of stable housing, food security and financial wellness creates a baseline for success. Your support helps The Hub address systemic inequities through direct assistance — ensuring our students not only survive but thrive.

The Triton Food Pantry operates on the principle that access to nutritious food is a universal need of students. Importantly, support extends beyond immediate needs. The Triton Food Pantry staff also provide guidance to students for accessing benefits from supplemental programs focused on resolving food insecurity.
