GOLD Fund
Our GOLD (Graduates of the Decade) committee is taking bold steps toward supporting the next generation of alumni and creating a legacy.
Their vision is to:
- Cultivate community by hosting social events for UC San Diego GOLD alumni.
- Develop relevant GOLD programs and initiatives that create a tangible impact for professional development and growth.
- Mentor and educate current students through college and career advice.
- Give back to the next generation through leadership and philanthropy.
- Foster passion and pride for UC San Diego.
A recent social event in San Francisco, directly supported by the GOLD Fund, allowed a group of local GOLD alumni to gather for coffee and enjoy an Escape Room together. There was an immediate interest in attending future alumni events to connect with other Tritons and support one another professionally and socially.
Making a gift to The GOLD fund today, supports specific professional and social programs and initiatives that impact over 95,000 GOLD alumni across the United States and globally.
Your generous support ensures that once a student becomes GOLD, they will be supported in their transition to career, and welcomed within their community.

Healthy Soils Project
Cultivating a more sustainable future, one plant at a time.
Since January 2024, Dr. Jack Gilbert and the Healthy Soils Project team have been advancing their research with a goal of developing protocols allowing the creation of safe and effective natural fertilizers, which has the potential to revolutionize the way we approach agriculture.
By prioritizing soil health and regenerative agriculture, we can improve crop yields, build resilience against droughts and enhance carbon retention. This approach is critical for creating a more sustainable food system, and the project's progress is a promising step towards achieving this goal.
Your donation today will help us meet our match, which means that each dollar you give is doubled!* Be a part of this important work by donating to support the development of innovative, probiotic fertilizers that can help regenerate degraded soils, reduce chemical waste, and promote sustainable farming practices.
By giving today, you'll not only be supporting a groundbreaking initiative, but you'll also be doubling your impact thanks to a generous matching gift challenge.* Don't miss out on this chance to make a real difference in the health of our soils and the future of our planet.
Your support today will help us cultivate a more sustainable future for all!

"Being a part of the Hope Scholars Program gave me a sense of community during my time at UC San Diego. It allowed me to interact with peers who shared my experiences, have the support of a caring staff who are always available to help and listen, and provides resources that supports my academics. The most significant experience with Hope Scholars has been the staff and how deeply the care about the program and their students. They are always available to listen and find the resources needed for a student’s success. They put a lot of work into programs and events throughout the year to provide a strong sense of community and support. I owe my success to them.”

Hoyo Negro Project Fund
The Hoyo Negro Project, part of the Cultural Heritage Engineering Initiative (CHEI) at the Qualcomm Institute at UC San Diego, focuses on “engineering a future for the past.” We demonstrate that a common desire to learn from, advocate for, and preserve the past is a powerful enabler for collaboration and innovation.
CHEI shapes the field of cultural heritage engineering through an international research network that gives students access to archaeological sites, historic monuments and works of art that are at risk and in need of our immediate attention. The cenotes and underwater cave systems of the Yucatan Peninsula are one of the most promising frontiers for Paleoamerican studies.
Following the end of the last Ice Age, rising sea levels flooded the region’s underground passageways and preserved a diverse Late Pleistocene fossil assemblage. A female human skeleton named "Naia" found in the submerged subterranean pit of Hoyo Negro presents a unique opportunity for Paleoamerican and paleoenvironmental research in Quintana Roo, Mexico. At 13,000-12,000 years BP, Naia represents the oldest nearly complete individual yet found in the Americas.
Investments in the Hoyo Negro Project foster an interdisciplinary approach to research, encouraging a culture of exploration and discovery. These efforts drive technological innovation to improve diagnostic methods, analytical models and systems for documenting, analyzing and conserving historical artifacts. With tourism development on the rise, and the “Maya Train” cutting a swath through these Ice Age time-capsules, the time is now to document these amazing windows into our continent’s distant past.

Throughout the academic year, the IDEA Center team offers a variety of services, such as coaching and hosting an array of events that develop academic, professional and personal skills. The IDEA Scholars Program provides a structured support system for high-achieving underrepresented students through mentorship, academic resources and community-building opportunities.
Engineering Learning Communities offer study groups and workshops to help students succeed in foundational courses. And for those interested in advanced research or graduate school, the Graduates for Engineering and the Research (GEAR) program provides workshops and mentorship to support their academic and professional aspirations.
Together, these programs ensure all engineering students have access to the resources, networks and guidance needed to thrive.
Ice Hockey Team
Our team is a student-run ice hockey organization that proudly competes in the PAC-8 Conference — one of the premier ice hockey conferences on the West Coast.
UC San Diego is a four-time PCHA champion, winning the titles in 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2006. The team recently competed in the 2025 Pac-8 playoffs, and while not getting the results hoped for, were proud to be at a league championship competition once more.
This program has seen many up and downs, yet through it all we are dedicated to the legacy, growth and love for the UC San Diego Ice Hockey program.
